Aquilla 1 wing advise ?

Postby coen » Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:39 pm

I recently replaced my wings batton bungy's with rope, since the bungys were lekker moeggeploeg and plane was going slower and slower, but now she goes quite good , better than ever. Are there any dangers in replacing aquilla wings bungy's with rope and what other tweeks can one use to fly a bit closer to the 60 mph range safely.

Thanks Coen.

Replacing bungees with string is good and increases performance, but might give you stiffer handling. This is only a matter of getting used to.

Secondly, Solo wings should provide you with a batten profile chart. Your battens will change shape over time. The chart allows you to set your battens back to factory standard.

After this, you can start tweaking by lowering root batten reflex, tightening the spreader bar or individual batten tweaking. This however requires approval by the manufacturer as well as your skills. I sometimes go as far as having someone taking a photo of my upper-surface in flight after which I will concentrate on sorting out the factory creases.

The most important part of a wing is a clean upper surface !

A well "tweaked" wing will easily give you an additional 10 knts over a stock standard factory wing. Well worth persuing.
