Sorry to open this one up again :!:

Bought some Benz filters from Mercedes two weeks ago, the exact ones in the picture above.

They are still available. Mercurius Polokwane had 7 in stock. They were R27 each.

I needed an extra filter to install before the fuel flow sender.

Hey Duck I had one of those glass filters on my trike as well. Engine lost power and just, just made the runway. Replaced all fuel lines as well as fitted merc plastic filter AND fitted electric fuel pump. About a week later lost engine power over the Franschoek mountains. Switched electric pump on and off 7 times to get back to airfield. VERDICT: The problem wasn't the filter or the lines. The vent hole in the fuel cap was blocked. So there. I had no reason to change from the glass filter to the plastic one but as i'd now made a holder for the plastic one already I decided to stick with it.
By the way if anyone wants a totally transparent merc filter ask for the MANN filter.
Duck. Have you got an idea of how many guys are using the glass type filters?

Nope...have no idea :?: but if I have to guess, I reckon substantially more than what we think.
Look, it's raining microlights :!: They're all falling out the sky due to engine-outs related to glass filters :!:

Am told that GUD make exact same one as the merc one. Midas for R12-R17... Guys in the sticks do not even have Merc dealers anymore....

Just a tip open up a old benz filter and take out the filter and fit it to the front of the hose that you use to fill your plane up. Will be surprized to see how many durt gets stoped by that filter and it fits over the front of the hose.

Wihle hanging about at airfields in Zambia as a kid the funnel used for refilling the tanks had a chamois leather fitted inside.
This was the filter and it was always surprising to see how much crud was filtered out by this chammy even if the fuel came out of sealed drums.

Any body doing refueling like this nowadays?

Still do it - Also removes a surprisingly lot of water from fuel.

We used to, but now have an inlife filter which can keep up with the pump. Problem with the Chamois is that you need a beeeg funnel and pour slowly. Pic of our new and improved fuelling station. (Avgas, but would have similar setup for uleaded. Have you seen what comes out of those old tanks in the sticks...)

macnaught rapid flo pump
Inline filter
fuel meter
fire extinguisher
bobjaan spanner to change pump nut
bloudraad tang to open fuel drums
duk battery jumper to earth plane and drum
Suuped Coke trolley to move drum around.
