All of you speak the truth. It is a great plane!

Flew one with a 912 extra for many hours and I can confess to many good and valid points mentioned above.

Carl just finished a local Raven a week ago. It will be fitted with a 914 turbo :P
Should be something to experience!

Apparently Carl is not rushed to finish a build, he takes his time and is willing to customize to aircraft to your requirements. Be it wing tanks, header tank, include the cowl, spray painting, fit the engine. He is flexable.

Brings back good memories, I think I must beg to take the Raven to the skies again!

Nice having so many positive posts! In one article it says "Zodiac aircraft are built of conventional stressed-skin semi-monocoque all-metal construction" What does this mean? :?:

Monocoque means a structure where the skin carries all the loads.

As the Raven/Zodiac has longerons and some fuselage bulkheads it can be called semi monocoque because the skin shares the loads with the rest of the fuselage structure.

Same holds true for the wings which have spars.

A classic true monocoque would be an unbroken eggshell.

Kind regards,

Gunter Rostek.

This does sound exciting.

Ok if im understanding this thread. The raven is a re-design of the 601 but designed and built by Carl Babst in SA?
If this is so who can give me his contact details, or does he have a web site to visit.

Does it come in kit form or is it scratch/plans built. And cost of the kit etc, does anyone know.

Thanks
Cheers

Hi Massimo, hope you are well !

Yes, the Raven is based on the 601UL/HD, I think it is a superb plane that Carl made better. I like the more streamlined turtle deck. It is a easy plane to fly and very safe, it is also the best value for money plane you can build at the moment.

Here are a few photos from my collection.

Not from my camera but thanks to whoever took it vhpy

Hi Rudi,

Do you know what engines ECN and CGH have installed?

They both look very sharp.

When will yours be finished?

Kind regards,

Gunter Rostek.

Hi Gunter !

I am not sure about CGH but ECN has a 100hp Continental, seems to fly very well with it ! I think CGH might be a VW but I may be wrong.

I am not sure when mine will be finished but it is getting close, I need to decide on instruments now, this glass/analogue thing has me confused  I think I will end up with a mix. At one point I considered going totally glass but I had an experience recently where a bit of water got into the "works" and then all the instruments went crazy for a while with the GX2, that won't happen to steam dials !

Kind Regards,
Rudi

Morning Gents,

Thanks for the replies. Rudi are you building it yourself or who is doing it for you? My partner and myself are busy building a sky jeep 701, which is almost complete and soon getting to instruments stage and motor. Very exciting stuff, but obviously there are 2 of us so sooner or later we need another aerie and the 601/raven may be the answer.

Hi Massimo,

I am building myself, think it is fun building ! Previous projects were a KR2S (ZU-AMV) and a Pietenpol (ZU-BDZ), I think next might be a Zenair 640 (4 seats)?

But there are so many great planes out there !

I like the 701 a lot, would love to see it in the air.

Regards,
Rudi
