582 Revs
582 Revs
I have recently baught a new trike with a blue top 582. When taking a friend for a flip this weekend I struggled to get ground speed on take off and noticed that the engine would not go past 6000 RPM at full throttle.
Could this be because the pitch of the prop is set too coarse?. It is an NC 3 blade composite prop.

What max rpm do you get in level flight?
Sounds like it is set up for a better high speed cruise. I have a 582 with 3 blade Warp on a Cheetah. It's best setup is 6250 - 6350rpm static on the ground and when in level flight it revs out to 6800rpm.

6 200 rpm static
Hi ZU-BPG,
I was taught that 6 200 rpm static was optimum for a 582.
I don’t get much more in level flight and cruise at 5 500 rpm at 55 mph.

Talking about 582 blue top rpm?
We have a cheetah with 582, P-prop72x52 and are at an altitude of 4100ft.
Max take-off rpm 6000. Climb rate 250ft pm 2 up. Cruise level flight 5600rpm 80-85mph.
Acording to all specs rpm should be much higher but have been flying her like this for the past 7 months.
Jetting is correct, prop is conform specs for motor, hrs only 142.
Changed props higher rpm less performance.
Suggestions!
Anyone had variations with rpm meters?
Dont talk much
Just think of flying

None whatsoever. It aint broke. Don't try to fix it.erik wrote:Suggestions!
That's the correct prop and figures for a 3.47:1 ratio gearbox. Leave it alone.
Yes, more than once.Anyone had variations with rpm meters?
Use an optical tachometer to read the prop revolutions and multiply by the gearbox ratio to get the true rpm. Cross check with your plane's tachometer that it matches. If not, get another tacho

Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two
re
If you look at the specs in the handbook max power is at 6400 so no need to rev it any more than 6400 and I always flew my trike at 6250 and had no problem at all
and it's still flying link a dream

Not above 80° C
Oi - not above 80° C (if it’s reading true).Sad-Ham wrote:The radiator is also top mounted and temp runs around 90/93

If the reading is true BOOM - QUIET - GLIDE

Hi.
Got four chaps monitoring their temperatures, there are two of us with identical machines that are experiencing the same problem.
Trying to find a solution.
With the nose up in flying attitude it looks like a lot of air going into the radiator flows over the engine first. Alternatively the flow is not true through the radiator as it sits in turbulent flow?? I have an aerofoil, but with a passenger? Perhaps solo wings can add some comment.
Anyhow to answer your question, I have analog dials and the other trike digital, same problem and the pickup sender unit is situated between the plugs on a blue top, identical set up.
Aviation engines can supply a unit that will trigger an alarm at 85 degrees but it is too long to fit on the 582.
We have tasked our local techno boffin to design one for us and has made some progress, Barry there is a marked developing!!
Keep you updated.
Fly safely chaps, two near misses reported on the forum. Thanks for the openness.
Graham.

On my previous Aquilla with the same radiator setup just with a silver top 582 and an Analog temp guage the temp never got over 55 deg C. I attributed this to the guage and temperature probe probably not being compatible. Flew the trike for 4 years with no ill effects. Spoke to the previous owner of my new trike and he sais the temp has always been around 90
