It souds like a viable choice given the fact that the 2200 Jab sounds better, due to low RPM is direct drive and has, allegedly much cheaper running costs and longer service intervals. Peformance wise the Jab motor seems to compare quite closely to the 80 hp Rotax, though according to these data, it is still a tad behind. Oh, I found it interesting that the 80 HP Jab is the unit recommended on the SA Skyranger website...
sourceMy personal preference is the Jabiru 85HP motor as it is direct engine to prop drive with no gearbox and the 4-stroke engine purrs at 3000 rpm instead of a screaming 5800rpm like the 912/912S. The assembly of the Jabiru motor is also far simpler and therefore the build price reduced for 582 2-stroke kits and Jabiru kits
Especially, given that the 80 HP Jab engine can be had new for R 85 k and the 80 HP Rotax for R 124 k, nearly R 40 k in favour of the Jab.
It makes me wonder what a 6 cylinder120 HP Jab would be like in a BB, mindful as I've pointed out, that Jab list a Kitfox firewall forward kit for said motor, also mindful that the 120 HP Jab is listed by the George Jab folks at R 103 k, still R 30 k cheaper than the 100 HP Rotax 912S.
