Hi All
A recently bought trike - only about 40 hours total time - had one of those
marine rubber hand pumps for pre-priming carbs. This one had a bypass tube, which sucked fuel back each time the pump was released, so I decided to remove the bypass.
On completion, there was a hole, or tear in the pump, which proved to be very brittle, and completely perished on the inside. The hole thing tore very easily, and had large flakes and strips pealing off on the inside. This all on the wrong side of the fuel filter.
It would only have been a matter of time before these bits and pieces caused an engine out, by going directly to the carbs.

Yup.. got rid of those pieces of @#^% fast and replaced with a push/pull primer pump.. I dont have chokes at all on my 582
Note though that the push/pulls also get gumbed up and need to be replaced at some stage - mines about 400 hours and gets stuck every now and then. Time to dump it too
