Wing assembly guide Aquilla 1 Wing

Postby Tower » Wed Mar 28, 2007 7:28 am

Guys,

I had to take my wing apart very quikly this weekend due to weather and no hanger within miles. only thorn trees. It was the first time I did this and now has to put the thing back together this weekend or it will live in the bush forever.

Anybody have a guide or manual that could assist me an prevent damage to the wing, and more impotandly, to me on the first flight!

Thanks John Young,

I have one of those, but he only comes out at full moon and works not for
Peanuts but for AVGAS, which he smokes!! :D

Ok , now being serious now, there are three types of battons on my trike, those with fish tails, easy, they go with the bungees, big to small, one on each sde, then little ones with string, and others with round ends! Heard about seams on top goes with one type, seams at bottom goes with the other, P:lease Help!

Tower the first time i did the wing story i used Albert at the airfield (with Hans's permission of course). I took a video of the process. You are welcome to borrow that if you want (its the small tapes, not on dvd), but i dont know if it will help you or confuse you more.

Maybe a good option is to ask oom if there's a wing at the field that he can show you how to assemble. You dont want to fly with a wing not knowing if its done correctly or not.

Other option is to fly up with someone who knows how to do it and then fly back.

Hi Tower,

Don't puk around.

Spreader bar cables etc. require some knowledge.

Better take a mate with you - easier 'coz it's a two-man job anyway (at my age).

Hey guys what part do you NOT understand. Poor Tower is in da bush already with no assistance, no buddy to take with ,no video to check. and No one to ask. So unless you want to keep him there, let me try and help from a windlass manual under "RIGGING PROCEDURES"

1. Lay the wing on the ground with zip facing up.
2. Assemble the control bar and turn the wing over.
3. Take the bag off.
4. Insert centre nose batten.
5. Spread the leading edge.
6. Ensure that the crosbar cables are on either side of the kingpost locating plug.
7. Plug in the kingpost and hook the rear cables in place.
8.Install the fixed washout tubes (attached to the leading edge with bungee kord)
9.Install the 4 half battens. These are the top battens but are inserted under the sail. The difference these and the other curved battens are the tips which are the same front and rear.
10. Install and insert the rest of the top battens.
11. Pull the crosbar retention cord to the rear and install bolt and wingnut to crossbar.
12. Lift the wing up and attached the nose cable.
13. Now insert the bottom battens (the straight ones)
14. Check over complete wing and leave the nose down in to the wind.
15. Wheel the trike in from the rear with the front wheel over the base bar.
16. Attached the trike to the universal hang block.
17. Raise the nose untill keel is level and velcro on the nose cone.
18. Chock the rear wheels to prevent the trike from rolling back.
19. Grab the base bar and lift the wing up.(lock the seat into position, on windlass, i suppose)
20.Insert airfoil tube in position.
21. Ensure both pins are secure in the U bracket.
22. Place fuel tank in position and secure the velcro straps (windlass again)

23. START UP THE ENGINE AND FLY BACK HOME!!!

Hope this helped.
