912 oil filter.

Postby Mogas » Mon Feb 26, 2007 2:56 pm

Does anyone have a part number for a replacement spin-on oil filter for the 912 other than the Rotax supplied part.
Fram, Gud, etc will do.
The one Rotax supplies is made by Champion but I can't find the Gud or Fram match using the Champion number.

GUD Z87 or Spirex SPX.O3054 :)

But, the agents are totally against using ANY other oil filters than Rotax :?:

Apparently, the oil pressure relief valves inside these filters are not the same as the Rotax one's :?

Also i seem to remember a Aircraft went down after the oil filter departed from the motor as the type used was an automotive type and the screw thread was slightly oversize. Engine out Aircraft down. Make sure you got the right type and fit.

What's wrong with the Rotax filter? Surely not the cost, around R75 every 100hrs won't break the bank :?
