What engine do you plan to put on the Bushbaby?

Go test fly the Mig. I have heard mixed reports. I know i farmer here who loves it (been in fair share of prangs and walked away from most), but most hate it?

Don't know Kestrel.

Bushbaby - Engine instalation is a big job. if you want to fly rather than be grease monkey maybe consider a flying one. Also reports on non Rattex Jabi engines on BB's have been

Have a look at the Cubby. Not for everyone, but some can be had for not much more than the mig/Kestrel were advertised for...

There was a 912 mig in junk Mail for R100K. Kestrel was on here for R125K viewtopic.php?t=3639&start=0&postdays=0 ... highlight=. Don't know bush baby price, but kit alone is in region of R80K I think?

The Mig is quite a piece of machine - obviously way overdesigned, tad on heavy side and therefore requires a powerfull engine - 80 hp might be on thin side at reef altitude when 2 up. IMHO.

Does anyone have a pic of a "Mig". If it is what I think it is, does not have the reputation of a good handeling machine, also way over engineered and too heavy.

http://www.oskbes.ru/890u_e.htm

Aerosud had 9 or 10 airframes in their hangar at FAGM at one stage. They were used for research http://www.oskbes.ru/geov_e.htm and a school training project some time back. As I say some love it, but most hate it? Am told it built like the proverbial brick Sh!t house...
The 912 is almost worth the full purchase price (providing it OK). think the one advertised may be the same one in latest SAF & is/was based nelspruit or somewhere in lowveld.Image

Thanks RV4ker
Yes, thats the one. Have also seen the one at FANS and not surprised it is on the market. Has not flown for ages.
If I had the $$ would buy it for the 912, wheels & brakes, instruments and hardware then bin the rest. It would be a bargain.

Was thinking same (912ULS Windlass     ), but have to sell the Cubby or the KR first.

Bush Baby with the 912. Jabi motors are not a good fit for the BB because they are direct drive engines, and thus cannot throw a long prop. The prop length is too short for the frontal area of the BB (It's quite a big cowling).

The Mig is horiffic IHMO, way over engineered, and at reef altitudes you need a 100hp or higher just to get airborne. I remmember when I did my licence in Bapsfontein in 2000 there were some that did circuits at the Bapsfontein airfield. They needed full rpm to stay in the air, and dropped like a stone when you went to idle.

Dont know the Kestel
