Spiking in voltage with Rotax 582 Blue top.

Hi fellow aviators,
During my last flight, at cruising RPM, I noticed a sudden spike in voltage (13.5 to 16vdc), normally constant at 13.5 vdc. This spiking returned to normal (13.5 vdc) within +- a minute. I landed, and did a ground run check at various rpm settings. A few spikes to 16 vdc, lasting for +_ a minute each re- occurred. (This fault is intermittent) The engine was shut down, and all electrical connections concerning the charging circuit were checked. No obvious faults were found. I suspect a possible voltage regulator fault. Is there a way to check the regulator before just replacing the unit? Any other suggestions? I am afraid of damaging the radio and instrument panel, and want to sort this out asap.

Hi Andries, waneer is jy weer in SA? Ja, myne het dit ook gedoen. Die oorspronklike Ducati een toe met die lokal een van AMPTronic Systems vervang vir helfte van die prys. As jy die Ducati een het, hy is 3 fase, so, as jy will, kan jy seker nog die ongebruikte fase gebruik (spaar geel draad).

Jammer ek lees nou eers jou voorstel. Die issue het kop uitgesteek tydens my laaste vlug voor ek terug moes gaan Singapore toe. Ek moet dus sodra ek terug is (25 Augustus) die regulator vervang, of die spaar fase gebruik. Ek het heelwat raad op die internet gekry, maar gaan eers die spaar fase check. (Dankie vir die voorstel). Waar kan ek die Amptronic system koop?

Some feedback on the charging issue. Replaced the voltage regulator, supplied by Amptronic. Charging at 13.5 VDc. Two hours flown since replacement. Problem solved!
