Trike Wing tuning guide

Postby DarkHelmet » Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:56 pm

I would love assistance here to make a defacto post for all wing types...

I have an Aeros wing (14.9m2) and it is pulling to the right - ie the trike keeps veering right.

I got the manual from aeros but the tuning logic is a bit dim to me. I have leading edge "tips" that can be rotated, left most tip is in the rotated down position.

I have rotated the right one up a notch to the middle position (of 3). It seems better but after flying 150hrs I am just toooo n00b to feel a difference. I think it feels better but it still veers to the right. Am I on the right track?

My thinking - the washout is for stabilisation - and this is what you adjust by changing the "tip" leading edge. By adjusting the right up should cause more lift on the right because it forces the air to flow faster over the top than over the bottom.

There is another setting - to tighten the leading edge on both sides - but do tighten it or slacken it? The logic there totally eludes me.

Sounds like you have increased the turn to the right. Hope this helps. Lets work on the right wing first. Easy way to remember is that if you turn the trailing edge of the wing down(towards mother earth) the wind hitting from the front will push the tip up and the wing will roll to the left. You say that the left is maximum down, so I would suggest that you turn the left up in other words looking at the wing from the left you will turn it anti clock that the trailing edge goes up. If the turn is severe I would set both sides 5-10mm in the anti-clockwise direction. The best will be to make minor corrections at a time and testfly between settings.

HOPE IT HELPS

DH Let me know if and when you fixed it. There are big technical explanations on how to tune the wing. Hope I said it straight enough.
Happy flying. If you struggle give me a pm and I will phone and explain
