Best Oil for Rotax 912 UL ?

I was told by an AMO to put in or top up with Shell AX 7 (motorcycle oil) but struggle to get or does anyone know where to get some ?
I can get HX 7 but apparenty not recommended
Any other oil that can be used or recommended ??
I see on the Rotax website that Aeroshell Sport Plus 4 is highly recommended but (R193 / Lt at a local shop at Rand ).
The guys from a Shell depot informed me that its not yet available in SA ??
Any advise as I only need to top up please ? (only about 500 ml)

Hi Piet - I recently purchased Aeroshell plus 4 from Boksburg shell depot for R110 / liter, i think the place called Atlas shell, but will double check and let you know

I use Motul 5100 in the 912ULS. Have used it for years. Also purchased from bike shop.

Oom Boet ek kan nou nie onthou nie maar die Quartz 5000 is mos nie 'n motorfiets olie nie of is dit? Die 912 het juis 'n goeie motorfiets olie nodig vir die ratkas. Ek het toetse laat doen toe Shell VSX van die mark af is en behalwe vir die ax7 is Castrol Activo wat 'n 10w40 is ook 'n baie goeie keuse, gebruik dit in al my motorfietse en het dit ook gebruik, ken ook 'n paar vriende wat dit in hulle 912's gebruik sonder probleme.

Die groot ding is om te doen wat die boek sê:"Motorcycle oil of registered brand with gear additives. If using aircraft engine oil; then only blended one." en " API classification "SG" or higher"

Hoop dit help bietjie om ding nog meer deurmekaar te maak

Mark het vir my die Aeroshell Sport Plus 4 wat deur Rotax aanbeveel in die hande gekry by `n depot in Boksburg genaamd Atlas Oil.

Moenie jou 912 stadiger as 200 rpm laat idle nie, dan knetter en raas die ratkas, nie goed nie. Ek koop liewer remskoene as om n ratkas te overhaul! Maak nie saak watter soort olie jy gebruik nie, onder 2000rpm RAAS hy.

Rotax call for an API rating of SG, this was discontinued in 1996, there are pseudos in the market which are fully synthetic and usually found in bike engines.

The reason the 912 wants a bike engine is because a bike engines oil is supplied the bikes gearbox aswell - the reduction drive is a gearbox and shares the engines oil.

I uh direct from FUCHS which is my next door neighbor, their product is a true SG API rated oil, and is called silkolene race -- R810 for 10 liters, I buy it in a case which is 10litres.

It is red in color and works like a dream!

I am using Motul 5100 in the 912ULS. I have good experience with it and there is still no complaint for Motul 5100. Its best and affordable.

Previously recommended oil but not anymore due to changes in the oil formulation.

AG okes - just use sunflower oil --- it works for our taxis on the roads, why cant it work for our planes!? and the taxi bosses also have a special cardboard brake pad too!
