I agree wholeheartedly with your AP.

I don't want to pee on anyone's battery, but those things are crap and dangerous :!:
Yes, I know they work, but the one I had eventually became hard and the rubber cracked! I don't need that to happen in a plane.
It's OK for a boat. Boats don't fall out the sky :!: :!:

I have just seen a fellow pilots little rubber pump come to pieces and it was not that old either. Frightening. Even though they do work well it seems you must check them very carefully. I suppose like all things in life the quality differs. Perhaps there are different types of rubber as with condoms. Some are good others not......

The alcohol content in the fuel could also degrade the rubber. Dont use then things, put in an electric pump.

Smiley, ask Aviation Engines if they have them. If not, contact me and I'll get you one from the US. They're very cheap..like $10.00 or something. I have a friend coming this way from the US next month (July) who can bring it with :D

I recently fitted an in line electrical fuel pump as a back up pump to the standard pulse pump.

When switched on prior to start up, it primes the whole system within a few seconds, no hand pumps, no rubber bulbs to perish......... it works like a charm, cold starting is definately much much easier.......

(and it has the added benefit of being immediately available in flight if you suspect fuel starvation starting to develope......... )

best r199.00 that i ever spent

Hello Duck

I did sent you a PM to get me one, but I just first want to consider the pump idea. My mate fitted one recently.

The fuel pump is a good idea and is also good to have as a backup.

What a lot of people don't understand is that the primer squirts fuel directly into the carb throat inlets, much the same as pouring a small capfull of fuel directly into your car's carburettor. It bypasses the carbs on the plane completely. Starts it first time, every time :D

The fuel pump will pressurise the system up to the carb bowls. If your problem is anything other than just not enough fuel in the system, it probably won't help much either. Once the primer has injected fuel into the carb throats and it starts up, the suction pulls the fuel through anyway.

Primer works for me, everytime :D
