Thanks. Hope the rain does not affect the reading  I assume it is usable on a Trike prop. RC props are a lot smaller? :?:

Most timing lights has 'n tacho in as well, and then you can check timing at same time ;-)

Ian found the problem! The timing was out and the rpm guage is faulty

Btw Faizel I have the same tach as you and I dont think it will work for 3 blade props, luckily Ian had one which you can set for 2 or 3 blade

So now to buy a new rpm guage... Wonder if the Midas VDO brand will work?

Go digital Ant. My tacho can do 2/3/4 blades.

Thanks Faiz how do you set it to 3 blade? It only has on/off button (Hangar 9)? And any suggestions on digital rpm guages besides going the full DX2 route?

Noel I hope to fly her out one of the mornings this week when the weather's less wet :)

Press the button quickly and it will change from 2 to 3 to 4 to 2. It does display the prop on the UPPER LHS which blade mode you are in.

I bought one of these a few months ago...its a Chinese copy of the Tiny Tach...very accurate and cheap as chips...I just use it a testing tool...not fitted to the a/c,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spark-Plugs-E ... 3f1e337fbe

I also have one of these,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Laser ... 2a252777d4

They both give the same reading + or - 10rpm so I'm happy with the accuracy....with the laser type I have you to point it at the prop hub as I can see and rotating parts on the engine...if you can on your engine it will be easier to use and and you wont have do the math re the gearbox ratio....it not quite so easy to use but if you cant see a rotating part on the engine but with care very good...I found the reflective tape supplied is not very good...I now use some I sourced elsewhere,

How on earth can they make and sell them at this price inc airfreight.
