Cloud Ahoy! FREE iPhone App for Flight Tracking!

Postby John.com » Fri Nov 02, 2012 9:43 pm

Hey Fellow Aviators!

Cloud Ahoy (http://www.cloudahoy.com) is a FREE iPhone app that tracks all elements of your flight and then superimposes it on Google Earth so that you can view (fly) your flight from above OR from a 'cockpit view'.

The only caveat is that you need to download the app from the USA iTunes store, which means having a USA address to register on the USA iTunes store. How to do this? Find any USA 'donor' address on the web in order to get a USA postcode, etc.!

This is how it works:
> Before takeoff, activate the Cloud Ahoy app
> On landing, STOP the app, whereafter it automatically uploads to the Cloud Ahoy server
> Once back at your PC, go online and there it is . . . . superimposed on Google Earth!

It allows you to review ALL elements of your flight (climb out/level flight/decent/etc.), which appear as different colours. I would think that this could be very useful for instructors!

You can step through the 'video' at flying speed, or up to 10x flying speed.

Anyway, here are a few screen shots!

Anyway, take a look . . . . it might be just what you needed to push you to buy that iPhone!

Fantastic app...IF you have an iPhone
Is there a similar Android app? (for us Samsung users)

You can simply import your gps track directly into Google Earth without needing that app though. Google Earth supports any .gpx file which most GPS's produce as track files
