Full fairing on trike?

Postby Loco » Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:53 am

Hi guys

Sorry if this has been posted before

Been wondering about the effect of a full fairing on an Aquilla (or perhaps any other trike)?

Any of you have 1'st hand experience of the before/after effects?

The obvious pro must be comfort due to less wind exposure & con more weight?

Did it speed up your cruising speed / better fuel economy due to better aerodynamics?

These full fairings are very pricy (R8,000+) just wondering if it's worth it?

Thanks
Ant

Hallo Anthony

I would say that the pro's outweigh the cons in the full fairing vs naked trike

...R8000-00
That's dirt cheap!!

Could the full fairing be one of the reasons the cobra is so successful?

Putting a fairing on a trike is kind of like going for a swim in a suit and tie!

Says he with a naked trike!

I know of one trike that the stall characteristics became really serious after a fairing was fitted. In fact it became a vicious pain in the arse!!!!!

I fly with a full fairing on my Aquila. She tends to float slightly longer on touch down and is ever so slightly more prone to drifting in a cross wind. I have found no other side effects whatsoever, and it is an absolute pleasure to fly with!THe floating actually makes the touchdown characteristics even more docile and predictable.

Since i have been flying with the Gemini I do not think i will be able to Fly another Trike without a Pod.

Really comfortable and feels so much better on landings etc.

My Vote is YES i would definately put it on.

I cant imagine flying my trike without a bit of frostbite on the toes in winter

Personal choice Ant, Go fly in one and decide for yourself. (!!) No real right and wrong answer... I am with John.com on this one. (^^) (!!)

Dont listen to Gav...he needs the fairing to conserve all the bodyheat that gets lost through his shiny pip! (!!)

Hell i need to keep as much drag off the plane as possible, and that Shiny Pip as you so nicely put it Bundy makes it Zoot through the Air alot quicker.

But yea i do get Cold very very Quickly and the Pod does help quite a bit.

But i still love Flying the Pink Lady, Now that is a Naked Trike (**) (**)
