Air Magic systems

Postby peelot » Tue May 16, 2006 4:21 pm

What's the general feeling about these systems?

Good, great, bad, too expensive etc etc???

They seem pretty good and make intercoms, headsets, helmets and all. Are they worth the money?

Would you say that there is other stuff out there that is better?

I believe that this is the system manufactured down in KZN somewhere.

Excellent, thanks for that, I will do.

I wouldn't mind the opinion of "users" as well, however.

Zulu1 flies from our airfield, and I was part of the testing team on the AIr Magic headsets. At first......eish, there were teething problems. but, after lots of coffee, and hours spent in his shack, and testing here and there, he has it right. Personally I do not have one of his sets, but there are a number of guys at our field that are using them, and are happy. One of the things that really impresses me, is that the size of the "comm box", is a little larger than a box of matches.
I believe that Zulu1 is in the UK, if you want his email address, PM me. Another person to speak to is Hazzard (also on forum) as he uses them, and I know he's happy. just some advice, use it, lose it.

Bought one of the first sets at half the price of a Buzzcom set. Not bad to start with but not as clear as my old Buzzcom. I have since received a brand new set free of charge with the mods and quite happy with it.
Service is great and prompt at a realistic price.

I pulled the wires out of the Y junction of my earphones, and could not figure out the correct configuration (the wires in my other set were all different colours). Sent it off to BUZZCOM and they charged me R300 to fix after I waited two weeks not hearing from them, then sending messages and phoning. Guess what system I will not recommend.

The performance of my old system was really not up to standard anymore. The poor comms prevented me from flying to Wonderboom for the EAA airshow this year. I had the radio, intercom and headsets serviced a number of times but after a few weeks of use the problems re-emerged.After an incident with a Bonanza I decided I had enough and ordered a set of helmets, headsets, intercom and powersupply from Airmagic. As was mentioned by others , the service was excellent , and the quality of the equipment is also faultless.

I fly an Aquilla and use an Icom A 5. I regularly talk to aircraft up to 160 km away and on request for a radio check the reply is :"I read you a clear five out of five"

I am very happy with what I bought.
