Mag Switch Wiring

Postby Beefmaster » Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:55 am

Hi guys,

I have replaced toggle switches on my trike now, and this morning when we were supposed to test fly, it wouldnt start. I figured that the toggle switch is basically closing the circuit in the on position, thus earthing the coil and not providing a spark. (Scary thought this coz I swung the prop to loosen it up before trying to start it, with switch in OFF position, actually breaking the earth and providing a spark!! ) Anyway, the way I've wired it is shown in the attached diagram, which I suspect is right, just need to turn the switch around so ON is by OFF position and vice versa.

Is this correct? I was told that I need a 6 terminal switch for the mags, but this makes no sense as only two are used anyway?

Thanks!!

You are correct.

If I wanted to confuse you, I would say that OFF is ON and ON is OFF.

The six terminal switch is nice because you can use the 3 ports on one side for the mags and the other 3 for a warning light when off, or as many do, use it to run to your hobs meter.

Ah thanks wargames, will cruise out to the field tomorrow and turn switches upside down ;)

Oh I see what you're saying, would be useful if the hobbs wouldnt run while ign is on, however I have an MGL system which allows you to set the time on the hobbs :) Dunno if thats dodgy!? Anyway, I wouldnt cook it simply coz I have a conscience, but one wonders if its been adjusted before!!
