Petrol filters

Postby Boet » Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:54 pm

Take a good look at this. The small filter I removed from an aeroplane that did less than 5 hours on it. It is so blocked you can harly blow thru it. Will I use this as my only filter? HELL NO!!!! Second one. Will probably work with a prelube engine. It contains a very fine sieve, that will catch a lot og muck before it clogs up completely. What I like about it, is the semi transparent body. You ca SEE if it becomes dirty. What I do not like about it, the lack of proper hose barbs. Just a straight piece of nylon pipe. What will keep the fuel line from slipping off. The Big one? Is on BOTH my planes, and my verhicle as well. Nice and generous sized with a nice beeeeg filter, that will take a lot of muck before becoming clogged. It is cheap, and easy to replace. Personally I would not even LOOK at those glass tube types with the the chrome ends and the tiny little nylon sieve....... That is why it is not pictured here. I moered it with a big hammer to keep it from landing up in an aeroplane.

Take note, fly safe. vhpy

That merc filter is also a GUD BC68. We also use a combination of the last 2 on the 4 strokes and never had an issue

I have used one similar to the second one pictured for years and have never had a problem. I say similar, because it looks the same, but without the merc logo, and it is supplied by Comet Aviation supplies. The lack of barbs, while not ideal, isn't a problem if the correct size tube is used.
I inspect before each flight, and replace it around every twenty hours or so.

Good info this.
Me and a couple of guys have been using Meyle when the Mercedes ones was unavailable at some time, Part no.014 047 0026.
Excellent German quality, used by Mbenz a lot, has a soft feel to it and is somewhat transparent which I like.
See also part no. 100 201 0001 and 314 323 0003.
The last one having barbs, but not sure if suited for 2-strokes mixes etc and I think the tube diam might be a bit small.
