Any good references ?

I need my Alu rims bearing holes "filled" & re machined
(so the bearing sits in the centre this time )
seriously !

Have 42mm OD bearings in, next size is 47mm,
that leaves me with only +/- 2mm "meat" either side, the 42mm gave me 4.5mm meat either side
- I dont know if that would be acceptable ?

Therefore the idea to close them up & size for the 42mm bearing

cant afford to ruin them, so Im asking for advice, who to use or NOT to use

What does a new rim cost?

Locally I cant find anybody selling them, the one's willing to bring it in mention R1100 excl VAT each

I found the manufacturer selling them at $40 each (R640 a set) and they quoted $61 (R480) for shipping (no idea about import duties/VAT etc)
... problem then still, its 3" wide, then to machine them down to 2.45" width - I would guess another R1000

Next step is to get a firm quote for (1) welding up or insert a sleeve + (2) machining the bearing recess
and weigh that up against new rims ( then what are the chances that the bearing recess will be centre on the new one's ?? )

The welding may have to be done my a coded welder, and the entire mod will have to be signed off by an AP.

Personally, I would feel more comfortable with a new rim.

Point is, only problem with the rims are that some idiot machined the bearing recess off centre,
otherwise they are perfect - so all I have to do is get that part sorted with welding / sleeve - an AP would be very happy to sign that out

My reason for NOT just buying a new set is simple, Im already R25K over budget

Some feedback on my wheel issue,

I found a company ( by word of mouth reference ) called Turning Tony in Foundersview - Edenvale

As u guessed, Tony is the man & he sorted everything out, ( one of the last few true artisans left )
re-sleeved the rim (bearing recess), turned the axle to the right dimensions,
trimmed the two halves to fit perfectly and lastly after mounting the drums,
machined them to run true

Now I have 20x less roll resistance, & brakes that actually decreases speed controllably v.s. a solid lock




p.s. The whole job was R1200, excl bearing @ R55 odd each
