sorry guys have to ask one question about oil

Postby andrew416 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:14 pm

I would just like to know from the people who were using bp vistra2 stroke synthetic oil if they are using the castrol power racing 2T oil as a substatute for the vistra oil? I see that the vistra is off the market! and can i mix the vistra with the castrol power racing oil? I still have a little bit of bp vistra oil left over in the tank of my 503

Hi There,

When I started my licence last year January we aslo could not get the BP 2T oil and we all here in Potties vhpy vhpy switched to the Castrol Power Racing 2T oil with no problems.

I use it on my 503 since I bought the Trike in July and had no problems so far.

Hi Andrew416, please note that there is no need to apologize, this is a very interesting questions and one of those topics where if you ask 10 different people the same question, you will get 11 different answers - there are only stupid answers vhpy

There are many different stories about peoples experience with oil, and while they may be relevant, more importantly, whether you use synthetic or mineral (without mixing them), and it complies with the Rotax recommendations, you engine will go to TBO if you take care of it.

My experience - I had my 503 go to 745 hours before it was opened for the first time, and I only used Castrol chain saw oil. The reason I used this oil was because, 1) it complies with Rotax specification, and 2) I got it at a very good price - but more importantly, I am a regular flyer, doing in the order of 80 - 120 hours per year, so the engine is used regularly.

I personally saw an opened 503 (30 hours duty, but 5 years old) after it had siezed, and the opinion of the Rotax accredited mechanic was that this siezure was a result of moisture ingress and the resultant corrosion from infrequent use.

Hope this helps

Hi Guys

I have been using the Oil from Sasol Garages and i must say i have not had a Problem as yet.
My Little 503 has had a hard life with having a total Pax and Pilot weight of almost 200KG's and she has been ticking over fine for 120+ hours.

Use it don't use it. ($$) ($$)
