Android

I have been playing with my Android phone (HTC Desire) to integrate it with my trike when flying.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the phone, it has a built in GPS and touch screen with micro USB interface and 3.5mm audio socket.

So far I have succeeded in connecting it with the intercom (Buzzcom and Airmagic) to be able to make in-flight calls by connecting the audio jack to the intercom via a double pole double throw switch. A bit crude but I have had no joy in procuring a Bluetooth interface. I also use the same connection to listen to music from my phone on the audio input of the intercom.

As far as live tracking and track recording goes, click on my signature below. The software is free and works on various platforms. I also tried a program called " Glympse ", witch is way better for sharing live tracking but it does not record your track.

Only reason I am not using VFR tracker is because I have Android and not Symbian but that may change in future.

OruxMaps is currently my favorite interface to MapMyTracks (click on my signature for a link). It provides direct line navigation to a point and works perfectly for a backup for my GPS.

All of the above software is free and can be downloaded form the internet.

Has anyone else played with interesting software? Please share it with us.

OK, let me help you, the Chatterbox has a neat feature that when i designed it allows a seperate microphone line to allow the mic to be "also used" as a cell microphone. I have the boards available and they will basically be a module that will plug in line with the pilots headset, if the audio mute socket is used it will mute the audio from the cell phone and allow the music line to play and other good things. I have promised a unit to Neale Thorpe but to be honest we dont have the time to make them and the costs would be very high due to the labour involved. BUT I am willing to send the boards to someone to make a 3rd party adaptor up. They will work perfectly with a iPhone, Blackberry and any phone with a 3,5mm 4pole jack plug. I would imagine the materials costs will be no more than R200. But we dont have capacity to make them...

Who wants to do it. ? Conrad was keen to do this ? The chatterbox also has pads for a amplified audio output to a camcorder that is not connected.

Hi Paul
If I understand it correct this will be a box that you connect between the headset and the chatterbox, and then you can make phone calls and listen to music?
I use a Nokia phone. Will this work on the system? Will it be possible to by one board for myself? If the diagram for the wires is available i can do the rest myself
Thanks
