Re: MGL Xtreme EFIS
The Basic unit comes with the RDAC unit and External GPS antenna included. The AHRS and Compass sensor is required for it to have Full function.JvTonder wrote:Just to confirm the price is for the unit without these add ons?Air Hog wrote:Basic system R7805 shipped to Pretoria. Does not have all the funtionality of GPS yet, but ground speed and heading working like normal GPS. Free upgrade later in the year as promised, to get all GPS functions working.
(1) Requires optional MGL Avionics AHRS sensor unit (SP4/SP5)
(2) Requires optional MGL Avionics compass sensor unit (SP2)
(3) Requires optional MGL Avionics RDAC unit
(4) Requires optional MGL Avionics current monitor sensor
So in other words all the functions (with the numbers next to them as per justin.schoeman post) will not work?

Re: MGL Xtreme EFIS
Hi
The RDAC is located and install close to the engine. Minimum wires run from here to the Efis itself.

Re: MGL Xtreme EFIS
Just got wind of this thread so here is some info from the horses mouth:
The XTreme does not include the RDAC.
The reason for this is there are different models and you need to choose one to suit your engine. The one for the typical Rotax is the RDAC VD and its pretty cheap at R852 inclusive of VAT.
SP-4 is the AHRS. That is the goodie that contains gyros and accelerometers and some clever software. This is used to find out how the horizon is moving relative to your aircraft.
BUT: It is no longer made. Yup, we have a brand new one called the SP-7. It's great - and its half the price at under R3000.
BUT: You don't need it unless you want it. The XTReme is the only current EFIS on the planet (except for its bigger brothers) that can figure out the horizon from the built in GPS alone and that is kind of free. This has a slight lag (just noticable) and there are some limitations but regardless of that - it works like a charm. Oh did I mention its free ?
The new SP-6 is the compass. You may or may not want it but its R1472 inclusive.
The navigation functions for the built in GPS (including being able to read our navidata files) are finished and part of the current update. As all software updates they are free. Download and install.
Next lot of updates will include the autopilot (using the new MGL autopilot servos) and the moving map.
So, putting all that info together and then looking at the price(s), I am sure you will agree that this is the most bang for the buck ever to have been released for an aircraft. Then again, this is exactly what MGL has been created for - to take the high cost out of flying. Now all we need is somebody to do the same for engines...
