I must compliment you on your fantastic illustrations.
After looking at your sketch, I now agree that it would probably be easier to remove the elbow, with the hex, and refit it in the correct position.

I'll try and pick up the Loctite 221 Violet (A) on the way home.

Many thanks.
I would apply heat to the elbow before attempting to loosen it or you could run into more problems :!:

Is it really necessary to apply heat?

Hopefully, i'll get to it tomorrow night.

Hi Greg,

Do you have a workshop manual for a 582? Can you email it?

I have drained the rotary valve oil, and have removed the elbow.
After cleaning up the threads thoroughly on both surfaces, I have re-fitted it at the correct angle.
BTW, the specified Locktite is not available, but the importers gave me a suitable replacement. it is also violet in colour. I cannot remember the number. (It cost around R180.00 for a small bottle)
Anyway .... I want to tighten the drain plug for the rotary oil. Does the manual specify a torque setting for this?
I also need to tighten the nuts on the studs at the bottom of the engine. Is there a specific torque setting for this? (I don't want to pull the stud out of the crank case)

All the torque settings are in the illustrated parts manual. Huge 9Mb

Here is an extract

Studs are 940190,

The bolt is 841580

I am presuming you are referring to the bolt circled in red

Thanks Greg,

Not that bolt. It's the one under the exhaust manifold. It has a copper washer under it.

Thanks for the last page.

I thought I would finish up with my trike this weekend ..... I thought WRONG!!!

A crack in the radiator frame has been found too.
I have ordered a new one from Solo Wings, and a new Bow Sprit too. I don't want to take any chances.

The airframe has around 550 hours on it, and was manufactured in 1999. So if your Aquila, or any other trike, has similar numbers, maybe give it a thorough once over. The results could be alarming!

I know that this type of work should be done by an AP and I do have an arrangement with my AP that he will check my work.
A lot has been learnt from this exercise. My pre-flight check will never be the same again.

You are right. Checked mine for annual and found hairline cracks around all four mounting holes on engine mounting plate on Aquilla with 503. Replaced plates and rubbers. Found cracked left rim under dusty layer and replaced both rims and tyres since tyres were showing signs of perishing. We have an AP with an eagle eye and its great knowing he is really looking and not just signing off the aircraft. Thank you Henning vd Berg I feel safe!! (^^)
