On cold start up my oil pressure is about 5.1 bar indicated. It drops back to about 4 bar.
I have a MGL Odyssey and on the last flight I noticed the gauge read 10 bar, the maximum level. It always reads this with no fluctuation. I remember that some gauges receiving no signal, automatically register the maximum value ? If I disconnect the sensor the reading is still 10 bar. The water jacket readings and even the oil stayed in the high 60's. I checked the connections.
Is there a way of testing the sensor with an electrical tester?
Is this sensor only available from the dealer?
Any other advise?
Thanks.
help please, 912 oil pressure
Re: help please, 912 oil pressure
Remove the wire from the sender unit and earth it on the casing-see if you get a change in reading

It sounds to me like sender failure, it happened to me on a 912.TranSky wrote:On cold start up my oil pressure is about 5.1 bar indicated. It drops back to about 4 bar.

Replaced mine with a standard VDO unit and it is working fine 100 hours later.

Re: help please, 912 oil pressure
Mine is doing the same thing, only lately, hits 10 and intermitently stays there, or drops to normal readings.
I think the wiring between the VDO sensor and the MGL is playing up. I replaced this one 60 hours ago and it shouldn't be faulty.
You can get the sensor directly from the VDO suppliers.
Control Instruments.
You need to use the 10 Bar single pole unit. VDO360081029012C

Thanks Guys,
I just G%gled it and see that you guys were discussing it last month!
Other chat groups suggest that the gearbox vibration leads to early failure on the sender and some folk are mounting the sender remotely on the firewall.
Some guys are getting fluctuating oil pressure readings and apparently the fault is in the oil regulator with the ball (432-680) and spring chattering. Rotax has spent 2 years to come up with a replacement 'cone' (PN 857-230) which was available from last year (sometimes free from agent) which eliminates that problem.
Forgive me if this is all 'old hat'.
Whats the price of the vdo sender from the automotive guys, got a quote for R645.00

Those looking in Cape Town the sender is available from Fleet & Time Control cc who have taken over the dealership at the same address, Drill Rd, Drill Park, Montagu Gardens. VDO R660.00
Apparently you can get a 3 pole sender that has a dedicated earth if you like to be sure.
Got this off a CT chat group for the sender. Don't know if it is legit.

how would we bleed the tube of air from the engine to the pressure sensor on the firewall.
BTW the new "Rotax" solution is R1800 from Comet

Morph, on the fluctuating oil pressure have a look at http://www.ctflyer.com/rotax-912/1980-o ... blems.html
on the remote sender, http://www.teamkitfox.com/Forums/showthread.php?p=11042
I wonder if the MGL can accommodate different senders?
