Mmmmmmmm To say that that was the problem doesn't make me comfortable. What would make me comfortable would be if you take your freinds carbs, put them back on his motor and set them down to 2000 RPM and see if the problem occurs on his aircraft as well.If it doesn't occur on his aircraft then it's specific to yours and the search will have to continue. ## ## ##
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

Quite possible that your tach is over reading, mine is out 2-300rpm,

Well done good conclusion.

Nick.

OUPA_G................. the fuel was fresh, put in brand new fuel and oil.

Ranger and Boet............. What you say is true and i will deff check that when i get to the hanger this weekend. Thanks for highlighting it. I was so happy to find a sollution that I did not even think of doing that.

Nickjaxe........ I have the feeling that you hit the spot with the Tacho theory. The engine did not sound like it was running 200rpm higher with the other carbs, as that would be very difficult to tell just by the sound. the tacho indicated the extra 200rpm. At the time me and a fellow pilot who helped me both thought that the tacho was the problem. But i will still test Ranger and Boets theory.

I have since flown it for 2h20m and it burns 12l per hour with me (103kg) and a pax (65kg) cruising at 50mph.

Thanks for the help , I really appreciate it.

You idle setting should not have any effect, unless the motor is idling very low and the jets are set very rich.

You say she only starts with the choke open. Once started do you close the choke all the way? Does this change the tone of the motor?

Your choke is not a choke it is a fuel enricher. It routes pure fuel past the jet stage from the bowls to the throats of the carbs. Perhaps it is cracked open just enough to smother the motor at lower revs but not enough for higher revs.. However once the idling is set higher, the motor has enough power/inertia to rev past the smothering stage and then rev to full.

See the pic. !9 is the choke jet, it has a flat surface that needs to mate with a surface at the bottom of the tube. Below that you will see a tube that extends into hole in the corner of the float bowl. This jet is adjusted by the choke cable. Make sure that when closed there is a bit of play on the cable. Otherwise take the whole assembly out and check the condition of the jet. The flat surface of the jet could be worn resulting in it not sealing properly.

The float bowl is a chamber of liquid subject to fluctuations in air pressure, now assuming the air pressure was higher when the motor last ran, and the following day the pressure drops, the higher pressure in the bowl will try and force the fuel out. If the choke jet is not sealed, fuel will be pushed up the tube and into the throat, hence the evidence of fuel being found in the throat of one of the carbs. I suggest this is the carb where the choke is not closing properly

BOOMARANG.........your post in another thread suggests that the fault was caused by a certain AP, Mr XXXXXX.
Please tell us what mistake the AP made that caused this problem in the first place.

Most problems with these motors are caused by "finger trouble". I was to fly my good mate, Kesie`s plane on a Saturday morning. We kicked the tyres, lit the fires and taxied to the active. I was not happy with the sound of the engine (Rotax 582 blue-top), so opted to taxi back to the hangar. Removed the tops of both carbs, and lo and behold. Some damned "expert", no names, no pack drills  , has put the needles on TOP of the white plastic spring-guide.  After putting everything together the right way around, all was well, and ze Bebeee flew just fine. Thanks. vhpy vhpy vhpy
