Braam, we have finalized the design and discussed with Craig (today) regarding the mod approval, at the development stages it was not possible to submit paperwork without a final operational design.
As we are all aware the fitting of Mode S transponders as mandatory fitment is on the horizon so its in all our interests to get this "right". It is designed to be as close as horizontal in level flight.
I have followed the Trig avionics installation as per specifications and used cables as per the mil spec stated.
The fibreglass dish (ally lined) with the ally ground plane is 850 grams and as per attached picture the device has adequate drain holes for fuel spillage, the device has been modified so that any chance of fuel retention is removed.
We remove the fuel gauge and mount the head in the panel, the fuel gauge is mounted in a single housing as fitted by street racing fraternity on the side of the pod.
Solo wings are working with us and will submit the required paperwork, we will be training the solo wings staff on the installation and programming procedures.
Unfortunately the Windlass is not an easy installation.

Re: Ballito transponder project
The club has signed a Letter of agreement with ATNS and is "effectively" closed to visitors from May 1st. We have a squawk code allocated to us and a corridor for arrivals/departure. I ask all potential visitors to respect the work that our committee has completed and the excellent relationship that we have with all at King Shaka. Please do not attempt to enter the airspace with out contacting one of the club members. King Shaka has primary radar as well. King Shaka wont take action against airspace violation but BMC will !
We are all extremely grateful that we can live in harmony with the new airport.

John, 21 Aquillas, 1 Bantam, 1 Windlass (hard work) and 1 Skyranger all fitted and squawking 1440 with no problems at all. I am very satisfied with the Trigg TT21s that we have used. Project complete....I do not advise anybody wastes time with a transponder on a Windlass, the Bantam we have a very cool solution, just removing the plexiglass screen...eish !

Yes, we had to move the battery, put a new pod, new electrics and regulator. It was expensive to do.
