How do you get rid of the fuel smell inside the cockpit?? I've spoken to other guys with Zodiacs/Ravens ....seems to me all have that problem to some extend. We've ordered Snap Vents from the States.....installed them.....and although they make a big difference....I can still smell too much fumes to my liking.
Anyone with ANY ideas?
FUEL SMELL IN COCKPIT
Re: FUEL SMELL IN COCKPIT
Is it just an unpleasant smell or are there loads of fumes in the cockpit?
Option 1. Johan Froneman carries a Staysoft refill tube in his Ravin. Acts as an air freshener
Option 2. Find the hole and fix it

Ok....I'll get some staysoft
I would say an unpleasant smell..... you smell the presence of the fumes....not loads but definately some fumes. There is no hole...as such ....I've checked for fuel leaks.....Haven't found any leaks or any fuel lying around.
So....first try was the snap vents.
Now I'll try the staysoft....
and so we'll continue until it is acceptable
Thanks for staysoft idea morph!!

Re: FUEL SMELL IN COCKPIT
One of the RV's I have flown had a small leak when you changed tanks and could never find it, because the fuel selector had a cover and fuel was running out below this. By time we landed and opened all up, the fuel had evaporated.....
Just a thought...

Re: FUEL SMELL IN COCKPIT
The Raven fuel tank should have a vent hole on the fuel filler neck. This vents inside the cabin, and can result in a fuel smell inside. I used a Jabiru style vented fuel cap to avoid having to make this vent hole.
Re: FUEL SMELL IN COCKPIT
A tiny weep which evaporates before actually dripping will cause a fuel smell.
I had this in my old BB and only found it on the rebuild, a very small porous spot on the back of the header tank.
