Vertex Radio Problem

Postby Bugwar » Tue Mar 02, 2010 11:45 am

I have a Vertex VXA-220 with Airmagic intercom that I mounted in my Koala. I have taken the radio out to use as a handheld while I am busy recovering the plane. The radio seems to work fine but the speaker volume is VERY soft even on full volume.

Any ideas?

Try plugging the headset connector in & out a few times, it could be a crappy connection on the radio plug.
If this doesn't work it could be the speaker or audio amp in the radio or a broken volume control.
Ps. Try this before going for the hearing aids vhpy

Paul, Got the missed call today and just walked in. I will find out in the morning and call as I have never heard this fault.

This was my first thought too.
Incidentally I have exactly the same problem with an Icom on my trike. Different radio`s, different aircraft, different intercoms, same problem.

Found and fixed the problem. Not my ears!!.

The VXA is designed for easy assembly, which means spring loaded contacts onto pcb all over the show. No problem with the headset socket, so cleaned the speaker contacts and voilla!! Problem solved (^^)
