Wiring of the Hobbs Meter.

Postby Poens Jacobs » Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:21 pm

My Hobbs meter is connected to the ignition. If the ignition is left on , the meter carries on ticking.
I was told that the Hobbs can be connected to the mags. Is this true, if so could someone please let me know how to connect. Thanks

It can be connected to the mag switch, but will also run if the mag is switched to the on position, engine running or not.
The best is to connect it to the alternator regulator through a relay, it only runs if the engine is running-charging

The other way is to connect it through the oil pressure switch via a NO (Normally Open) relay. This way it only starts working when you get oil pressure in the engine. I like to stay away from mags if I can help it but It does work that way and is less complicated.
