Challenger II Throttle Problems

Postby cross_wind » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:34 am

I wonder if any of the Challenger pilots out there can help - my throttle keeps closing itself in flight despite continuosly tightening the bolt on the throttle arm. At the moment, its very stiff to use and I don't really want to tighten it anymore. Its obviously a problem with the engine vibration causing it to close - has anyone come up with a solution to this?

This is a problem depending on the Throttle quadrant. Where are you tightening it up? Front or rear throttle. I had to tighten up the rear one to stop it from moving. The front uses a pushrod to the rear to interconnect them

Don't mess with any of the springs in the Carb

Good point - thanks. I have been tightening up the front throttle. Will give it a bash this weekend, and no, there is no way I will mess with the carbs! vhpy

Another solution is to obtain a small bungee cord, attach one end to some place forward of the throttle lever,
wrap a turn or two around the throttle lever, and attach the remaining hook to the same place as the other hook.
Experimentation is required to obtain the proper balance of forward tension on the lever (provided by the bungee cord)
with the rearward tension provided by the carb springs.
Placement of the bungee cord hooks may also determine the length and/or size of bungee cord to use.

Now that sounds like it could work. I was looking at the throttle on a Pegasus Quantum this weekend and wondered if it could work on the Challenger. The unit looked solid and I like the choke lever located under the throttle. My choke is behind my head and can be quite a mission to get to. Will mess with that later - still have to get my fuel burn under control.
