Icom A22E Radio Repairs

The crystal on my radio is apparently faulty - no spares due to age. The guys at Multisource do not seem to be very interested in making a plan - anyone know who could attempt a repair using a newer crystal or a crystal out of an old radio.

Im inclined to suggest that you shouldnt bother. I had an Icom a few years ago and whilst it was a great radio i started having the same problems. I had it repaired at a cost of R1,500 but it was never the same - became the source of major irritation as i was forever being moaned at for not calling.... In short mate, perhaps retire the radio and get something newer and more reliable... in these days costs are obviously an issue but the extra cost is well worth avoiding the headache

As Dish has advised, the fellows at Multisource are the most helpful, no problem but I agree with as Dish advises its a bit like a Ford Anglia, fine in their times but really collectors pieces. The ICA5/23 is also very difficult to obtain spares for them and the repairmen are not motivated as the next thing is capacitors and then it goes on.
The biggest problems with them after some serious usage is the second pin on the small 2,5 mm jack plug, we mould the twin plugs ourselves but due to age we now supply two individual plugs as they can become a problem.

So contact Solo (Phil Jacobs) in the Cape and buy a VXA 220 as they are directly compatible with a small wiring job. Just cut off the CT96 GA sockets.
