912s Carb Problem

Postby Alpha1 » Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:52 pm

Close one this morning. I came in to land at Hluhluwe and as I touched down the engine stopped. I managed to start it again and taxied to the parking. There is stopped again and did not want to start. I left it for about two hours and then tried to start it. It flooded the right hand carb and ran very rough. The bowl was removed, cleaned and the jets cleaned. I started it again. Same problem. I ran rough and feul spilled out of the over flow. I then set the float level higher. Started and same problem. If you ref the motor up is sometimes overcome the shudder but then the revs ossilate. What can it be? Please help as the there is nobody near Hluhluwe that can help.

Checked needle and seat. OK. No dirt, checked.

Agreed sounds like either
Faulty needle and seat
Sticking or damaged float
faulty fuel regulator
Or Combination of the above

Check the earths on the ignition circuit. Same thing happened to me, would not start, or would stop suddenly. Found both earths connected to a single bolt and this was loose. The bump of the touch down could have been enough to break the circuit, hence the sudden stop.

Also check the floats dont have a leak and are full of petrol, as this would cause them not to float, which may explain fuel spilling out of the overflow.. :?:

FIOLA I Fly again. Thanks gents for all the help. I took the carbs off (Again) cleaned them with carb cleaner drained the old feul out of the tank and assembled. It runs like a new baby. I checked everything as advised by your mail. Thanks once again (^^) vhpy vhpy vhpy It looks as minute dirt in carb may have been the reason.
