Which GPS and mounting bracket

Postby Big-D » Tue Dec 06, 2005 4:52 pm

Howzit guys

I need to buy me a GPS. I reckon I only need a very plain one to guide me back to the place with the hangers when I'm lost.
Have looked at a few. Garmin GPS60 looks good. Just kinda worry about where and how to mount it, seeing that Garmin do not really cater for microlights.
Help me out here. What is a good plain GPS and where can I buy a bracket to fit on a Safari's (banana) pod?

Ram mounts are nice, but pricy....

I know my Garmin bracket is actually used to attach the GPS on a boat. But it's perfect! I bought it at Sportmans Warehouse, but it is pricy!!

I have had several different Garmin GPS,s during my flying days, GPS 90, GPS II, GPS III pilot, GPS map96 and each time I have just used the holder provided with the unit. It always takes a bit of adapting, and they work out just fine.

The latest generation of Garmin GPS's are very efficient on battery usage, eg. the GPSmap 96. They also have USB port connectivity.

Big D, I bought a Garmin GPS-Map76 and a "Ram" mount from African Stuff in George - they couriered it overnight to me once the money was paid.

also: www.ram-mount.com - it's unbelievable what mountings they actually make these days.
