PLB success story!

On Thursday 12 February 2009 the COSPAS SARSAT reported a registered PLB in the Okavongo Delta in Botswana. This information was sent through to me and the ball started rolling immediately.

I forwarded the information to the Botswana authorities and the Maun Police, stayed in contact with a very worried family in Germany and am happy to say that a German tourist is alive and well today due to the quick response to his distress beacon.

Locator beacons do work!!!!! (^^)

Take care and fly safe!!!

Nice to have. Also one of the Breitling wrist watches has one. Don't know how it is powered.

Hi Grumpy

I looked into the Brietling watch thing and you are looking at R35k-R50K for one.
It is Satelite activated after recieving a sudden impact or you can activate it manually.
Very Very Nice but Eish a bit pricy

Shall I get us 4 then Grumpy? 2 for you and 2 for me?

I heard (unconfirmed) that if you activate it accidently or without valid reason you are liable for US$25k fine! (**)

Think I will just keep my old Breitling and get a portable PLB.

Imagine the value of a PLB watch to anybody straying into unknown territory, hikers, pilots, yachtsman. Very comforting in a 'time of need'.

Maybe we should look into producing one for SA with only a time function and PLB.
Should not cost too much ??
