Microlighters

My Raven airframe is ready! Now I just need to get it from George to Pretoria. Unfortunately I am under real pressure at work, and can't really take the time to drive to George and trailer it back.

What other options are there (that aren't ridiculously expensive!)? Any transport companies, furniture removals, even rail freight options?

Any advice appreciated!

Try SAR. I sent a car down to FAGG cheaper than I could drive it. If you not in a hurry and it can be packed for you...

Do you have any contact details. I have sent a couple of emails via their on-line enquiries, but got no response...

One of my staff used to work for them. He organised it all for me. He now in Oz, so no contacts sorry.

Bayliner needs to go up to JHB somewhere to fetch his trike, and I think he will be going with an empty trailer. maybe if you plane is crated he can do a detour and share expenses.

I am willing to help. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can introduce myself to Morph and some others at Morningstar to discuss renting/hiring a trailer. My plane is a trike and I assume that I only need to fold up the wing. I will be driving an Isuzu double cab. At the moment the canopy and tailgate has been removed for respraying. I will get this back on Thursday next week. I mention this in case you want my help and I would need to know if I should fit the canopy or not. Sharing costs can be dealt with later. Grumpy, thanks. Looks like Bayliner is taking a trike trailer up...

Anybody know if it would be practical to put a 3-axis on a trike trailer? Wheel track is 74" (1.87m).

Maybe it is possible to secure the forward fuselage (probably similar wheel positioning to a trike?) and wings on the trailer, and then hire a set of tail light extensions to place on the tail of the aircraft.

The wings are each 2.4m long, so should fit comfortably on the trailer. The fuselage is 6m long. The big things that could probably go worng: 1) wheel positions wrong; and 2) engine sticks out too far beyond the front wheel (which is typically the furthest forward point on a trike).

Anybody know if this can work?

Justin, I'm not a transport guru, but I think it would be easy to overcome the wheel positioning. A flatbed config trailer and you're ok. The problem is the fuselage at 6m on a 3m trailer is your big problem. At 6m length you're talking 'furniture removal' size transport.

Car trailer will accomodate that.....
