Weight shift on floats?

Postby FAWGie » Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:48 pm

I have seen recently our AP here refurb two weight shift rubber ducks (not sure of correct name)....but they are going back out the country...

Does anyone operate and fly these beasts here (Maybe on the Vaal dam)?

If so, can they operate in SA and what are the rulings regarding water operations.....

As I understand dept of water affairs don't want big floaty birds on our waters due to the spread of hyacinths... Those are nasty buggers to control

Topic on Avcom some time ago. Water hyacynth (sp? ) seems to be the problem. You can only land and take off from the same mass of water (ie Vaal dam). If you want to go from one to another you have to wash it down. Not CAA, aparently fauna & flora... (What about boats that go from Vaal to Harties by road?)

They look like they could be great fun. Can't think of anything better than flipping from Hobbie beach for 3 months of the year and being paid for it. Would be interesting exersize. Tourist business? (Now if could just do something about coastal winds :? )

Think there are a couple operating in Moz. (There is also a float Bantam there)

PS
Anyone know where one could get a float plane (ml) rating locally?

I was at Manfred Springer's hangar at Tedderfield on Friday last and he had a floated rig there. When he tried it he had a CG issue and it has subsequently been stripped for parts.

RV4ker,

I know where you are going with this..... Just remember, if the tourist bikini top flies off, it goes thru the prop at the rear.....Yes, I know, it will be worth it..... :D

Does RV4ker have a rear-facing pilot setup on his aerie or is it side-by-side?

Tandem, but have a cool little mirror to keep pax honest. If any chance of the bikini flying off I will install 150's camera system in the back....
