Satellite tracking system information

Postby zu ebl » Wed Jan 28, 2009 8:45 pm

Hi All,
We planning a Gyro trip during March 2009 for 10 days up North, Botswana,Malawi,Mozambique.
I'm looking for a Satellite Tracking device to be installed in my Gyro, I saw a article on the forum
some time back, but could not trace anything. Anyone with information or experience on this,
please let me know.

FYI
Is a cellphone based system available for real time tracking on internet, but only works when you have signal. Has been tested in Bots.

Have a look at Page 3 of a thread where they spent how many looking days for a downed aircraft, and I mentioned a tracking device I have in my gyro:
http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 30#p512484

Contact My Tracer for details. http://www.mytracer.co.za Tell them you are interested in the "Trace my plane" product, and that you will need international roaming for the countries you mentioned.

It uses GPS to acquire the position, and the cellphone network to relay the position to a web based program. One will be amazed that even in very remote places, one can get cell phone signal. At worst, it might go off for a few minutes at a time before the latest position can be updated.

I have flown low level along the west coast, the karoo and the wild coast, and the worst I had was about 15 minutes without a signal. At least a last known position was able to be plotted, which would help the search party a tremendous amount.

I believe every trike, gyro, and certified a/c should have one of these in them.

GPS bluetoothed to cellphone and instant internet tracking.
What brand of phone, model e.tc.?

And who knows which model of Nokia phone plugs directly into the Airmagic intercom ready for inmediate use?

Thank you.

Go to your local MTN store and ask them for a Bandit system to be installed, else just phone 086 111 3719 and ask for info on a Badit system...

Check it out at: http://www.banditsecurity.co.za/site/default.asp

Another one is X-Drive (www.x-drive.co.za). Got one in my Thunderbird and it works extremely well. Uses GSM and costs about R3000. Runs off aircraft's battery power. Users can view trip in real time on own website, so softness can see where you are at all times. vhpy Has a lot of functionality on website which can be downloaded to unit, i.e. alerts, battery power, location requests, etc. Info can be sent to email and sms. Very happy with unit.
