Hi all, I am doing some research for a fellow flyer who is wanting to crop spray using a microlight and he would like to know if there is a program suitable to use on a gps to help accurately spray an area, and what GPS make would run such a program.Alternately if there is someone on the forum that he could contact/talk to about cropsraying and using a gps to assist accurately covering an area will be a great help. There is the option of using the old marker on the ground system but this is not always the best way to go.
Is there I site I could goto that would have this sort of infomation????
Any help or advise will be appreciated
Thanks Z-MRP

Rob Weaver used to spray cane on the KZN coast, he has a cross Windlass/Aquilla with a 18 square metre wing and a 912s. Also two auxiliary chemical pumps. Panel gauges etc. They use the fuel tank for chemicals and a seperate small tank for fuel. No GPS needed as they spray in difficult areas. Corrosion is a major problem from the chemicals. He would be helpful and maybe would do some trial spraying for you. Cant beat a trike for economic coverage. You would need to advise what to squirt on the crops ?? I will see him later and advise the interest.

Ciao Paul

Thanks for the replies guys its all helpful info.
Zulu 1 thanks for your input there and you hit the right crop, Sugar Cane, so will wait to hear from you. To plane is a Thunderbird/912 extra, so will also follow that link to Trevor and see what advise he can give.
If there is anyone still following this thread that can add to the above I will be grateful as need this info by the weekend.
(^^)
PS Zulu 1 thanks for the power supply unit for my radio/gps, excellent quailty stuff well worth every penny.

I know Jenya at petit also has some involvement with building microlights for crop spraying. As for a GPS assisted spray program - mmm - I'm totally out of my depth there. I thought they still use the old ground marker. But it might be an idea to ask the big guys - they based in Bethlehem in the free state.
Orsmond aviation. They have a link under their website that says guidance equipment but it goes nowhere.

ah - the power of google. And guess what - orsmond is their SA dealer. :-)

Hi,
Be aware of the legalities if you are doing this commercially.

Cheers,
