And what airfield twas that........GP

Hi all. Long time....yes, i'm still around.
Have recently moved up to JNB

and flying here now. Today I flew the midrand area quite abit, and there seem to be literally hundreds of private strips out there. However, there is one strip, with 2 intersecting runways, one grass, the other gravel. It is just off Olifantsfontein road. Anyone know what it's called.
Those private strips out that side, are they active, or dormant??
regards

I think the one you are talking about might be Summit. The other 2 in that area is marked as private but I don't know them. On the mapsource map here I coloured what most people know as olifantsfontein road but it's actually summit road there. It's olifants towards the east of the N3 highway.

yebo yes, that's it.
Has someone got a "listing of all the smaller airfields in the area.
Reason I ask is that there are alot of smaller fields that we hear of, (Summit, Orient, Laser, ( I think) etc) and have no clue where they are. Being new to the area, I hear people flying from A to B, and most of the time I have NO clue where they are.
If not, then don't worry. I'll learn where they are with time.

I also fly in the area, from Ingwe airfield (used to be called Laser). I trained at Aero57, which is up the road from Ingwe.
Ingwe is the airfield top left and Aero57 is the field top right of the image, posted by Stephan.
Ingwe have quite a couple of active pilots, especially over the weekend, Saturday and some us on Sunday's. There are also a couple of us that fly during the week. (I will be flying tomorrow morning

)
Aero57 is a training school, so they usually fly often as well. The Aero57 training area is NNE of Aero57, next to the remote controlled airfield.
Hope it helps, what's your reg, I will listen out for you!

Just a correction on Tracer's message. Ingwe is active oer the weekends. During the week at Ingew there is Tracer almost every day

and some of us some of the week days. So if in the area, listen for AJP. He is more active than Wonderboom ATC and Waterkloof combined.
I am just grumpy as I could not fly this week

Thanks for the heads up guys.... appreciated.
Regarding Reg, well, that depends which machine is on duty - but it's easy, generally we're the only company, (that I know of) that uses Jet Rangers for vehicle searche's, and that's pretty much the only job application that would put us in that particular area.

Just out of curiosity - why the name change, and does it mean anything

Well, basically the owner of the property is Ingwe Property and they decided that Laser is the old name, with some history, so they changed it too Ingwe. (Ingwe, some kind of Spotted Moutain Lion, or Leopard or cat-like animal)

Please, not to be confused with the Freestate Cheetah. Spotted leopard is better

Correct

, but that is a slightly touchy subject with all the "Bulls" supporters at the airfield

Hey Duck, long time....
the area we were working the other day, was Olievenbos??? but, yes, diepsloot would also be a regular visit.....for recoveries, not for a social beer at the local.
