hangar in Vryburg

Postby lamercyfly » Mon Dec 22, 2008 10:58 am

Hi folk.

Anyone able to help me with contact details for hangarage in Vryburg tonight.....also a B&B.

I ...am flying the Dragonfly from Postmasburg up to Aviators near Harties, and have decided to stay over in Vryburg tonight.

But, no hangar, no stay-over :(

Any help with contact details will be appreciated.

Regards.

thanks guys.

I received a phone call within 30mins of posting the request. Johannes Visser called from Bloemfontein and put me onto Andy Brink in Vryburg.

A hangar and B&B all sorted.

....but now I sit in Postmasburg looking at the building Cb's, and I'm wondering if I should'nt rather stay put...but tomorrow bad head-winds.... decisions, decisions

regards.

Once at AP, how long do you plan to stay in the area ? Let me know, maybe we can do some local flying (if your muscles will allow it) ! We're also flying on Friday for a breakfast to Kokoriba (20NM) north of AP. 082 seven7seven7 2 ninenine.

.....will be at AP for about 4 days, then continuing my homeward journey to Durban.

I have been away from my family for 11 weeks ( 7 weeks microlighting in the Seychelles, then 1 week up in Jozies delivering and doing some training on a trike and now 3 weeks up in Postmasburg with the Hang Gliding camp) starting early October, so thanks for the offer, but I want to just rest with Annie and the kids.

Depending on the Hang Gliding folk, we may come through to demonstrate the Aero-Towing capabilities of ZU-TUG.

Needles to say, anything I get up to will be with Annie and the kids :)

Cheers and thanks once again for the kind support offered.

Last year I had a similar situation, with an unplanned stop-over in Bethlehem due to bad weather. Then, just as now, within 1 hour of posting my plea for help, help was offered... Is'nt that just great..

..you can just fill up your plane and go anywhere in SA.... as long as you can go on-line and request help from microlighters and Avcom'mers, you will tour the country in style

Cheers.

Shot guys..

I am sitting at the airfield in Delareysville at the moment.... Darn North wind making my progress slow..

Maybe I need to spend the night either here or in Lichtensburg....

......the hangar here in Delareyville is full with planes and trikes and a tractor......any chance of a spot in Lichtenburg if I need it?

Please call me on 084 2663359 if you can help... going on-line is difficult..

Cheers.

Remember an evening spent camping under the wing at Lichtenburg due to wind blowing fit to bust! Arrival at Lichtenburg was memorable event with several out-of-seat experiences. Was Bundubash season though. Quite a few hangars but sorry no contacts.
Think of what the Wright brothers could have done with a Rotax!

There is AMO at Lichtenburg who runs the crop spraying setup. They have a big open communal hangar where the air tractors etc used to live. Out of dusting season it is usually empty and would make for rustic accom for you and TUG. Mike v Gingel's son used to be based there, but I think he has left. I have lost contact with the guys there, but am sure you will find someone of you get there. IIRC there is a guest house and SPAR within walking distance to the West....

The Bush Baby that was for sale on here not do long ago was parked there last time I was there some weeks back? Maybe new owner based there?

Thanks guys.

I met the crop-duster. His name is David, and we had a good chat, especially about CAA

I decided to push on, and arrived at Aviators after an epic 9hour flight. Thanks for the reception Dale...feels so much like La Mercy was.... nice warm welcome, beautiful relaxed but safety concious and professional atmosphere...

In those 9 hours, I never once flew higher than 300feet AGL,(except when I arrived at Aviators) and followed mostly the N14. In other words, a true VFR VMC following line feature, no instrument, no radio and no bulls**t jol of a microlight flight.

Will write a little bit about the story, and some observations I made..

Cheers.

........flying sideways, I had an average ground speed of 65km/h

But hey, I enjoy the journey, and I am not one of those who wants to say "hey guess what, I flew from A to B in only 'x' minutes..... I fly cause I like to fly, not so that I can say I flew the fastest between 2 points.

I really don't get the point of why microlighting and now LSA are trying to 'outspeed' each other...somebody's lost the plot of what microlighting is all about........ low and slow, just cruizin'...that's my motto.

Cheers.

Hey Dave, that is the perfect reason to go flying, and why I started flying in the first place....your stories are making me jealous!!!

When my family are more grown up, I think I'll trade in this B777 and come to do some real flying with you and Annie.

All the best for the Festive season,

Cheers,
Ant.
