Solo training wind speed?

Hi guys.

Could the trike flyers please inform me in what kind of ground wind speed (in knots) I could still go out and do solo training? I want to start flying in more windy conditions. Wind free days here in the Cape are few and far between in the summer months.

Booked to fly tomorrow morning at 7. Wind prediction on windfinder reads 10knots. Could I still go? Blowing right down the runway atleast...

Thanks
Karl

10 knots to much for solo 'training'.
But then Im 'bang' anyway.

Depends what wind it is. Here in KZN the prevailing wind is North Easterly. 10 knots straight down the runway would not be a problem. Sensible thing to do is go up for a checkout circuit with the instructor and let him decide.

Cheers,

Thanks Leftseat. Just wanted to get an idea what you guys were flying in. Will do so. For the next 3 hours my instructor has to do a dual check in anyways before I fly solo...

Cheers

the weather is so strange these days, that I think you should have a look on the day and decide whether you can or not.

If all else fails, set a tyre alight and see whether there's any wind shear and direction change and different heights in the circuit. :)

I've learned not to decide whether to fly locally based on weather predictions.

If its's more than 10knots in any direction I don't fly - Period. When I was a lower hour pilot (Now at 240 odd hrs) I was a little more adventurous and flew up to 15 knots sometimes (My record being a 22knot crosswind landing  ) but did not enjoy it so in my case I have become more cautious as hours became more

I wouldnt go solo in 10 knots, but as you fly more and more, the wind becomes much less of an issue. Flying in 15 - 20 knot wind is possible but uncomfortable, me I fly for fun - not for a workout. You'll find your limits as you progress. For example - the wind at the Gauteng champs was blowing at 17 knots, I would never have normally flown in that wind. I did and now I'm not scared to fly in that sort of wind, however would choose not to purely because its hard work. Good luck
