Speak to the guys at Saplanes, I am sure you will find many guys who would love to take you flying in their pride & joy. If ours was ready, I would make the offer. You cannot go wrong with the bushbaby imho. It is possibly the most reasonably priced homebuilt rag & tube aerie available & can haul a big load too. The explorer is wider by about 2 inches & is slightly slower because of the drag profile, but bang for buck, you cannot go wrong.

Our economy, despite the spin doctoring we have is in the brown stuff & aerie prices are dropping too, not only here, but in the states too. You can find many bargains for aircraft at the moment. I would consider a previously flown aerie too.

If you have the balls to build your own aerie, go for it, I thought that I did, but was wrong, it is very time consuming & challenging. Unless you have the time & patience, I would go for having it built professionally. There are a number of people active on the forum who can advise as well.

The problem with buying a previously loved aerie is that you do not know about the mistakes the previous owner made during the build. I fall securely into that category, Boet having picked many holes in my building when I thought it was perfect. Be careful out there.

Ditto on the testride. Nelspruit or Komatipoort, anybody is welcome particularly when it comes to a prospective customer
At the moment we have a tailie as well as a nosewheel to play with. ANY excuse to go fly is a good one.
Regarding building your own, anyone with reasonable technical (read DIY) skills can build one but the quality of the build will depend hugely on your passion for the build and the time you are prepared to put into it.
The time taken to build is quoted as 450 hours. This would apply to a builder with previous BB experience and does not count setup of trestles etc.
First time builders should plan on about 800 hours.
