Microlighters

ERMF are planning a full day First Aid training course at Microland. The cost will be approximatley R250 per person, including lunch and refreshments. We are planning to run it on a Saturday and may run more than one if the demand is there. The course will cover a wide range of first aid topics, but will also focus on the trauma that we may encounter in aviation related accidents.

Is this an informal course/ discussion, or presented by an accredited organisation/ instructor?

I voted No Thanks, but only because I am not in SA if I was, I would attend.

I think this course is an excellent idea.

When I am back in SA will sign up for one.

Ok, just make sure that they are registered with the relevant authority- The basic "level one" first aid course is minimum is 16 hours + exam time (ie usually over 2-3 days) and covers a number of topics including some theory and prac sessions- They need to be registered with the HCPSA as accredited providers.

The Basic Health Care Providers course is conducted over a one day and is mainly focussed around CPR only- this course needs to be registered to the AHA (American Heart association).

Just check that your instructors are registered with the relevant bodies before you accept their prices as there are unfortunately a number of "instructors" that are not registered .

One of the form members, "Woody" is an instructor, he can advise you if you need additional info to make sure you get your bang for your buck (PM me if you want his cell number)

LIFE MED reg CI 338. The following is covered:

-Principles of First Aid and Safety
-Emergency Scene Management
-Examination of Patient
-CPR
-Head and Spinal Injuries
-Shock and Unconsciousness
-Wounds, Bleeds, and Fractures
-Soft Tissue and Cruses Injuries
-Chocking and Epileptic Fits
-Multiple Injuries Management
-Fainting and Convulsions
-Environmental Management
-Practical Exercise

I`m sure andreb will post more information on the qualification of the instructor(s) and the reg of the organisation.

Yes to the above
Iceman i agree with you the above is the prescribed level one first aid index of course.Although the law states the course is 16 hours"don't tell enyone"it could be done in a day depending on instructor and braincell level of students.I feel a course like this is a must for every person...the diffs between life and death.
Microland run with the idea,....as i have communicated to Fanie(C.F.I) it is a first.

My wife presents first aid courses and the one described is level one. She agrees that it can easily be done in one day depending on the amount of brain cells in the heads on the day.

Excellent idea and will stand you in good stead one day to help someone, whether in flying or not.
