Whew! What a week! Medical!

Postby skidmark » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:30 pm

I had t do my flight medical on the 18th June. Due to a very bad case of flu I cancelled. Went onto a course of anitbiotics for 5 days. After that I started to feel a bit better and rebooked my medical for the 1st July. The flu came back with a vengence and I thought stuff that my medical expires on the 30th let's go for it.
Got to the ECG and the doc reckons pulse rate 41 bpm need to up the rate. Makes me jump up and down the steps then gooi's me back on the ECG. Reckons mooi bpm up to 105. He carries on with paper work while I'm recovering. Walks back to the machine looks at me tells me that there's a big problem with my heart and refuses to go any further.I 'm now totally freaked out as I have always considered myself fairly fit. Go back to my GP...another course of antibiotics. Make an appointment with the heart specialist. The specialist reckons whats the point doing another stress ECG. His come's back good the other is bad... CAA not interested. So book myself in for a angiogram. Have to wait 5 days. In the meantime I'm freaking and start getting the boys around to have their last few dops with me. Go in this morning to do the test. I'm thinking when do I advertise the plane blah blah blah. Get jabbed in the groin ...not a comfortable experience...fairly painful when all the tubes and kak come out. Bottom line there is absolutely nothing wrong with my heart, everything open clear and working. What freaking week! My nerves are shot. Report goes to the Dr that did my medical and that sorts that. I can fly again! Me thinks DON"T do medical if you sick it doesn't work. ...now vhpy

Had similar,

Socks n' jocks, plugged in and ready to pounce on the exercise bicycle. Busy with the static blood pressure and he advises that I gently lie back and rest, he'll dim the lights and call back in 5.  ti

After second reading, he gently removes all probes and announces that the medical is suspended until my blood pressure is normal and that I should quietly just drive home. He did'nt like my 155 over 115.

Big skrik, was a perfect candidate for a stroke- under treatment - 2 pilletjies a day and passed like a thoroughbred 8 weeks later- no big deal. :)

I've used Dr. Philda de Jager a couple of times now. She is GREAT ! But she gives a bigger "opf#k" than any corporal in the Air Force ever did to me.
Halve through I tune her "Surely you can see that I am fit ? Can't we stop now ? ... Please ?"
She has this sadistic grin and says: "The absence of disease does not constitute health. Now how about raising the tread mill another 10km/h for another 20 minutes !"

When I left there, I felt like going to some other doctor to have me treated for burn-out !

But then I reckon, if you don't do it done properly, you are only bullsh#tting yourselve ! So I will start in the gym 4 weeks before my next med ! vhpy
