NATIONAL YOUTH DEV. TRUST ANNUAL MICROLIGHT DAY.

Postby Frootbat » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:52 am

********** We need more TAXI drivers to assist plz. * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Help will be appreciated.
See contact details below...........

MISASA AND NATIONAL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT TRUST SECOND ANNUAL MICROLIGHT DAY.

The second annual microlight day held in conjunction with MISASA and the National Youth Development Trust is planned for
Saturday, 14th June 2008, at Panorama airfield.

This follows on the successful microlight day held at Microland last year, where 62 underprivileged schoolchildren had their first flights in a microlight.
Details of last year's event are to be seen on the NYDT website http://www.nydt.org/home.asp?pid=922
The NYDT has estimated there will be 75 children who will be in line for their first flights this year. These children are from schools in Mamelodi, and have been earmarked for the Aerospace Rangers program, involving MISASA, ATNS, BOEING and NYDT. Their experience of flight in a microlight will make their theoretical activities a reality, and enhance their understanding of further aeronautical activities, which form part of the NYDT aeronaut program.
An appeal is made to pilots to assist by taking each child for a short flight. . Fly in and put smiles on faces. Indemnities will be in place. The kids will be arriving by taxi at 7am, and the flying will commence shortly thereafter.

Contact Martin Woldt on 083 461 2660 or martin@epe.co.za for further details and to confirm if you are able to assist with flying the kids.
Come and join your fellow pilots for a coffee and boerie roll, and do your bit to introduce the youth to flight !

Free Breakfast for participating pilots.
We are also working on having a fuel sponsorship for participating pilots. TBA

Nice idea guys, but.....
You would get a far better response if there was a bit more notice given than 2 days. This weekend is also Battlefields flyaway, so many pilots will be out of town.
just my 5 cents worth, and I hope it is a HUGE success!!
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints

Hi All & Sundry,

Sorry for this late request, but we were also surprized last week.
Unfortunately I was in Slaapstad to post it earlier.
Most of our guys are also 'outa town'.........

Well done to you guys for arranging this. (^^)
I see the kids are from Mamelodi? Why not have it closer to home then. Rhino Park or Kitty Hawk would have been ideal. Microland hosted the same event last year and the kids were bussed in. Unfortunately the driver got lost (or African time) and they arrived several hours late, by which time the wind had seriously picked up and most of the pilots had gone home.
I suggest you make sure they have directions and understand them and the timing.

NATIONAL YOUTH DEV. TRUST ANNUAL MICROLIGHT DAY.

Postby Frootbat » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:13 pm

Hallo All,
I'am very 'heppee' to report that the event was a very 'beeg' success.

72 kids arrived shortly after 07:00, the frost was still 1 metre thick (o.k. just a little less).
Luckily we had 8 x Trikes, 1 x Tri Pacer, 1 x Challenger, 1 x moerse Squirrel chopper & 1 x Robbie R22 to assist.
Most kids had flips in more than one type of aerrie, just smiles all round.

a Very big thank you to all who donated their time and their flying 'matcheens', the ground crew who helped with the loading and unloading, all other helpers and also the ladies that looked after our bellies.

Regards,
Hannes.
