Microlighters

Hi folk have been away for a while, are there any updates on part 62, I recall something was supposed to happen around June 2008?

OK, the question was asked and I tried to get info.

Unfortenately Mike B is away for a Month so I can't get an official quote, but I asked around and got a whole long story, but I'll try and bullet point it for you, my interpretation. Information is from credible sources James, Robert, Neil, but in my words OK...

- The Legislation part is done, but the implementation part is lacking.
- Need to finalise how to roll out the new license...
- CAA was waiting for Aeroclub and Aeroclub was waiting for CAA (miss-communication between parties)
- Meeting was held this week on it between CAA and Aeroclub getting back on same sheet.
- 1 June date is out, 1 July No, 1 Aug Maybe, my best guess is 1 Sep

Time bomb sitting with Glider Soaring Society being included with it and they are not happy. If it explodes then who knows what will happen.

So see it is not only us Micros that can whine

Tks for the reply Rudi, it is encouraging to know that something is happening.
I just wish we would follow the US in some instances ie their LSA system has been strong for a number of years, they have just started their 1000th GPS IF approach, GPS precision approaches still a dream for the CAA... CAA love to re-invent and complicate the wheel when it's long been invented and done elsewhere.

But be that as it is at least something is happening albeit - slowly.... :

Yes Ditto on that, whish we could just look at other countries like USA, appreciate their effort, then say we do the same, saving lot of money and effort, and frustration.
Have you seen some of the videos on the net with Autopilots flying WAAS GPS approaches almost to the Deck, these are standard autopilots we can fit into our experimentals.
Exciting times and aviation jumped leaps and bounds when embracing the new electronic era.

Agreed! Yes those WAAS approaches are rather fantastic, the technology out there is unreal and the Americans and Canadians are extracting some great potential, I read somewhere the cost of maintaining VOR's and NDB's is pretty expensive and not too mention the vandalism and theft in SA, I heard that GAV has been moved twice due to this?
Yup as you mention the availablity high tech is fast changing, think flying is going to be very different in the next decade, we are going to see some really incredible stuff, microlights/LSA's light aircraft will commonly have airliner avionics technology!
