Info on Thabazimbi airstrip

Postby IceAge » Thu Mar 20, 2008 8:47 am

As the weather seems to be clearing a bit vhpy vhpy vhpy I am planning a trip this weekend to a game farm north-east of Thabazimbi and would like to stop over at Thabazimbi for a leg stretch on my way there and back and would like to get some info, eg.

Frequency - I see on the Breitling Chart there is none so I assume 'platteland', ie. 124.8
Fuel - ie. do they have fuel available (unleaded) or should I park off at a garage along the way. Will be taking a few containers with, however will need to get fuel somewhere along the way as well, especially on my way back
Joining - ie. Join at 5000 (airfield 3200)
Circuits - Google shows a mountain on the one side or is it too far to have an effect :? :?

Any other relevant info would be appreciated

Regards and enjoy a safe flying weekend...... (^^)

Last time I landed there (1 year ago):
No field frequency: 124.80
No fuel: Took the wing off and cruised into town to the nearest Caltex. From the airfield, through narrow gate, onto main road into town, maybe 1 km to Caltex on left.
No joining: Just join overhead at 1500.
Mountain is 1km to the south and runs parallel to the strip. Shouldn't have any problems other than in a howling Southerly.
There is a vulture colony about 20km east-north-east of the field at Kransberg. Expect to see them.
Enjoy it !
