HIRTH 3502 E
HIRTH 3502 E
Anyone know of the Hirth 3502 E, has the same mountings as the Rotax. This motor is 60hp with a 1000hrs crank change. Anyone have any idea of the price including shipment, and any advise concerning the motor
Hi Batman,
For info go to the following link
http://www.hirth-engines.de/deutsch/index.htm
This is a new motor.
It says the motor will be avaiable in Spring 2008, so I guess that means aroundMay 2008.
As to the Crank, the text clearly states TBO is 1000hours and Warranty on Crank 3 Years, so the way I read it if you only fly 100 hours per year, you end up with the same 300 hour crank change as with Rotax.
If you fly 200 or even more hours per year then of course you get more value for your money because you now get 600 hours or more before the Warranty expires.
In all of this I am assuming that CAA will take expiry of warranty to mean crank needs replacement.
Kind regards,
Gunter Rostek

I interpret it differently...
TBO is 1000 hours - Rotax says theirs is 300hrs
The warranty covers crank failure within 3 years. Therefore 333.3 hours per annum to get the benefit of the warranty!
The older engines were seriously unreliable but it seems the newer generation is spot on!
Just curious... what is Rotax's warranty on a crank if any?
hmmmmm, just asking!

Take note of the carb mounting positions between the two sites...
It seems the one uses reed valves?

The barrels of the photo I posted shows a mounting point for some intake above the carbs. This lets me believe that they also used for something else!
