Rotax Crank Hour Extension.

Hmmm, Looks like I may be eating my own words.

Sounds like there may be a possibilty that CAA are going to extend the hours to about 450, they having the meeting today at 13 30. But........ and its a big but, there seems to be some other criteria that will have to be met in order to qualify. This may be just as big a problem !!!!!

I think we should all just buy Volksie engines. For around 10k you can completely rebuild the engine and as far as I know there TBO is around 1500 hours.

What happened to the 600hours for 582 and 750 hours for 503 that Misasa were proposing :?:

They must just make up their bluddy minds. I was told unofficially by one of the inspectors that I might only have to do a "crank inspection" on my aerie (604 hours) and not a mandatory replacement
So now I wait for the outcome to know how deap financially I'll be in the sh...t. Which ever way you look at it, it's going to cost you money

Do they really think that a 150 hour extension will cut the deal. Most trikes is in any case above that. I hope that CAA will reject this offer, so that the fight can continue. I am so afraid that if they accept this proposal, then all is said and done. Then there will be no turning back.

What are "they" thinking??

Bye-bye RATTEX!!!

Hi.

Does anyone know what the membership numbers for MISASA is this year and if there is a financial report available for last year so we can see where our money went?

I have been in contact with HKS japan and with the supplier of Hirth. As soon as I receive the information back I will post it here. It does not matter which way we look at it but we are screwed. I think at least 80% of trikes will be grounded with no ATF. How about some registration info on light aircraft so we can work out the total damage.

Why is Niren not commenting on this issue, it will kill their business? Why Is Mike Blythe not commenting on this site, it represents most of the pilots, probably four times more than misasa does?

I know he is in that meeting. I want to know why does he not come onto this forum and come and answer some of the allegations against him? This forum is more representative of our flying community than misasa.

I don't believe that the enforcement of the 300 hour crank replacement issue by CAA had anything to do with or was secretly motivated by Mike Blythe and Aviation Engines except for the possibility of Mike as chairman at Misasa not being able to react quickly enough to the promulgation of the new part 24 and the implications thereof.

I believe it is in fact AE who stand to loose the most out of this complete mess. We individually are suffering to the value of an engine overhaul, but AE stand to loose a significant amount of business moving forward due to the move away from the 2-stroke rotax motors. They still have the 912 sales, but once the bottom of the market goes somewhere else, then their natural progression to 4 stroke will be to that other engine rather than back to Rotax.

The persons wielding the big sticks at the moment are not in any way linked to either Mike/Misasa or AE.

The crank issue is a combination of CAA saying you WILL strictly maintain your aircraft according to the MANUFACTURER'S maintenance schedule and the Rotax Manuals specifying a TBO of 300 hours which involves a CRANK REPLACEMENT for the 582

The fact that Rotax spares are so expensive could be a point in discussion, but go look on international websites and work it out, spares are expensive anywhere.

Right now ROTAX are the de-facto standard, purely because they have the most installated. It's time that they are toppled from the throne.

But we are a little country on the tip of Africa, and are a mere drop in their total business. So do you think we are going to get them to change theri minds, no way.

So when did "RECOMMEND INSPECTION" become "YOU WILL OPEN IT AND CHECK IT"? Nobody modified my manual.

Yes but that is only found in 1 place, the 1994 version of the Rotax 582 maintenance manual. The revised manual 1999 doesn't mention anything. Nowhere else is it documented. Well I have asked for this proof and to date it is not forthcoming.

That still doesn't place the blame on Mike or AE except of course the choice to use the 1994 manual instead of anything else.

Hi Morph,

did you direct your query at CAA for proof of the 300 hour thing??

I wonder why there is no response!?!? Maybe they don't either!

Then why is mike pushing for a 600 or 750 hour overall if he knows that is not what the members want and it is going to screw his business over.

Just heard from Solowings that a conversion for an HKS which is supported on the Aquilla will be roughly 100k. That means I am out of the sport.
